死亡的繩索曾環繞着我；毁滅的急流衝擊着我；陰間的繩索圍繞着我；死亡的網羅面對着我。在急難中我呼叫永恆主，我向我的上帝呼救；他從他的殿堂中聽了我的聲音，我在他面前的呼救聲入了他耳中。

你把我放在陰坑之最低層，在黑暗地方、極深之處。你的烈怒重壓我身；你使你的激浪都淹沒了我。（細拉）

耶穌在劇烈的精神掙扎中，禱告越迫切；他的汗珠就像大血點滴落在地上。

於是帶着彼得雅各和約翰、同他到一邊去，就非常驚恐，極其難過。對他們說：『我的心很是憂困、幾乎要死。你們停留在這裏，且儆醒着。』他就稍往前走，俯伏在地上禱告、能不能使那鐘點離開他而過去。他說：『阿爸，父啊，在你萬事都可能；把這杯撤去吧；但不要照我所願的，只要照你所願的。』
