The law came in that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly;that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in the future, saying,‘ What do you mean by these stones?’then you shall tell them,‘ Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant. I will tell of the loving kindnesses of Yahweh and the praises of Yahweh, according to all that Yahweh has given to us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he has given to them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

Light dawns in the darkness for the upright, gracious, merciful, and righteous.

Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me.”For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,and might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

“ Now therefore write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.For when I have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.It will happen, when many evils and troubles have come on them, that this song will testify before them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants; for I know their ways and what they are doing today, before I have brought them into the land which I promised them.”So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel.He commissioned Joshua the son of Nun, and said,“ Be strong and courageous; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to them. I will be with you.”When Moses had finished writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, saying,“ Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of Yahweh your God’s covenant, that it may be there for a witness against you.For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, while I am yet alive with you today, you have been rebellious against Yahweh. How much more after my death?Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them.For I know that after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn away from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will happen to you in the latter days, because you will do that which is evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.”Moses spoke in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.

He spoke to the children of Israel, saying,“ When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying,‘ What do these stones mean?’Then you shall let your children know, saying,‘ Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until you had crossed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over,that all the peoples of the earth may know that Yahweh’s hand is mighty, and that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.’”

But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.

Only be careful, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children—

Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
