If an enemy were making fun of me, I could stand it. If he were getting ready to oppose me, I could hide.But it’s you, someone like myself. It’s my companion, my close friend.We used to enjoy good friendship at the house of God. We used to walk together among those who came to worship.Let death take my enemies by surprise. They ask me things I don’t know anything about.They pay me back with evil, even though I was good to them. They leave me like someone who has lost a family member.

While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel. Ahithophel was David’s adviser. He came to Absalom from Giloh, his hometown. The number of people who followed Absalom kept growing. So he became more and more able to carry out his plans against David.

David had been told,“ Ahithophel, along with Absalom, is one of the people making secret plans against you.” So David prayed,“ Lord, make Ahithophel’s advice look foolish.”
