for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues.

Sinful people who lie and cheat have spoken against me. They have used their tongues to tell lies about me.

You love to destroy others with your words, you liar!

haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent,

Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed.

They all fool and defraud each other; no one tells the truth. With practiced tongues they tell lies; they wear themselves out with all their sinning.

I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.

The lying witnesses said,“ This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.

Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.

“ My people bend their tongues like bows to shoot out lies. They refuse to stand up for the truth. They only go from bad to worse. They do not know me,” says the Lord.

They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly.

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death.But even though they found many who agreed to give false witness, they could not use anyone’s testimony. Finally, two men came forwardwho declared,“ This man said,‘ I am able to destroy the Temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus,“ Well, aren’t you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?”

Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people.O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment?
