When they become few and lowly Because of oppression, misery, and sorrow,

他們又因暴虐、患難、愁苦，就減少且卑下。

但他們因欺壓、患難、愁苦，人口減少而且卑微。

後來他們在壓迫、患難和痛苦的煎熬下人口減少，地位卑下。

以後他們因為壓迫、患難、愁苦，就人數減少，降為卑微。

他們又因受威壓，受患難，有愁苦，而人數減少，地位受屈抑。

後來因著壓迫、災禍和悲哀的事，他們就人數減少，降為卑屈。

厥後復遭暴虐、患難憂苦、民乃減少、而卑抑兮、

復降眚災、加以禍患、俾民數衰少、民心悚懼兮、

民因遭暴虐患難而愁苦、遂至滅少卑微、

主德蕩蕩。無偏無黨。

Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;

Then the number of God’s people got smaller. They were made humble by trouble, suffering and sorrow.

When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow,

When they decrease in number and become impoverished through oppression, trouble, and sorrow,

When they are diminished and are humbled by cruel oppression and sorrow,

When they are diminished and brought low Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,

Again, they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.

When they are diminished and are humbled by cruel oppression and sorrow,

Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

As for their enemies, they decreased in number and were beaten down, because of painful distress and suffering.

In those days the Lord began to cut off pieces from Israel; and Hazael defeated them throughout the territory of Israel:

For he left to Jehoahaz no more of the army than fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand infantry, because the king of Aram had eliminated them and made them like the dust at threshing.

For this is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor At the time that it is tread down; In just a little while the time of harvest will come for her.”“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, He has set me down like an empty vessel; He has swallowed me like a monster, He has filled his stomach with my delicacies; He has washed me away.

The Egyptians used violence to compel the sons of Israel to labor;and they made their lives bitter with hard labor in mortar and bricks and at all kinds of labor in the field, all their labors which they violently had them perform as slaves.

Have You not made a fence around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.But reach out with Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will certainly curse You to Your face.”Then the Lord said to Satan,“ Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not reach out and put your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,a messenger came to Job and said,“ The oxen were plowing and the female donkeys feeding beside them,and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”While he was still speaking, another came and said,“ The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”While he was still speaking, another came and said,“ The Chaldeans formed three units and made a raid on the camels and took them, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

For whenever Israel had sown, the Midianites would come up with the Amalekites and the people of the east and march against them.So they would camp against them and destroy the produce of the earth as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel, nor a sheep, ox, or donkey.For they would come up with their livestock and their tents, they would come in like locusts in number, and both they and their camels were innumerable; and they came into the land to ruin it.So Israel was brought very low because of Midian, and the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord.

Then at the end of seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines; and she went to appeal to the king for her house and for her field.

But she said to them,“ Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has afflicted me?”

In those times there was no peace for him who went out or him who came in, because many disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands.Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress.

Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,“ I will never be moved.”Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, I was dismayed.

For the Lord saw the misery of Israel, which was very bitter; for there was neither bond nor free spared, nor was there any helper for Israel.

Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, But those who were hungry cease to be hungry. Even the infertile woman gives birth to seven, But she who has many children languishes.The Lord puts to death and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and brings up.The Lord makes poor and rich; He humbles, He also exalts.

Now a day came when Elisha went over to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman, and she urged him to eat food. And so it was, as often as he passed by, that he turned in there to eat food.

Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage ascended to God.So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

There I will also provide for you, for there are still five years of famine to come, and you and your household and all that you have would be impoverished.” ’

Now Hazael king of Aram had oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
