彼變江河為曠野、源泉為燥土、

主因人民蹈於愆尤、使水區為沙漠、江河為槁壤、膏腴之土、成斥鹵之地兮、

主使江河之地、變為沙漠、泉源之處、變為旱地、

頑民怙惡。主心不悅。變川為沙。泉源枯竭。

He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,

Why, when I came, was there no man? Why, when I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Indeed with My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness; Their fish stink because there is no water, And die of thirst.

I will lay waste the mountains and hills, And dry up all their vegetation; I will make the rivers coastlands, And I will dry up the pools.

I will make the rivers dry, And sell the land into the hand of the wicked; I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, By the hand of aliens. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,“ Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

Their nobles have sent their lads for water; They went to the cisterns and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty; They were ashamed and confounded And covered their heads.

And Ahab had said to Obadiah,“ Go into the land to all the springs of water and to all the brooks; perhaps we may find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, so that we will not have to kill any livestock.”

The waters will fail from the sea, And the river will be wasted and dried up.The rivers will turn foul; The brooks of defense will be emptied and dried up; The reeds and rushes will wither.The papyrus reeds by the River, by the mouth of the River, And everything sown by the River, Will wither, be driven away, and be no more.The fishermen also will mourn; All those will lament who cast hooks into the River, And they will languish who spread nets on the waters.Moreover those who work in fine flax And those who weave fine fabric will be ashamed;And its foundations will be broken. All who make wages will be troubled of soul.

He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, And dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither, And the flower of Lebanon wilts.

You broke open the fountain and the flood; You dried up mighty rivers.

And He will stretch out His hand against the north, Destroy Assyria, And make Nineveh a desolation, As dry as the wilderness.

Therefore, as I live,” Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Surely Moab shall be like Sodom, And the people of Ammon like Gomorrah— Overrun with weeds and saltpits, And a perpetual desolation. The residue of My people shall plunder them, And the remnant of My people shall possess them.”

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, Will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It will never be inhabited, Nor will it be settled from generation to generation; Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there, Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.But wild beasts of the desert will lie there, And their houses will be full of owls; Ostriches will dwell there, And wild goats will caper there.

“ I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered.So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the Lord.

Who says to the deep,‘ Be dry! And I will dry up your rivers’;

Its streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever.

The beasts of the field also cry out to You, For the water brooks are dried up, And fire has devoured the open pastures.
