愚人妄行作孽、便受苦楚、

或陷昏惑。積辜成疾。

Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.

Others were foolish. They suffered because of their sins. They suffered because they wouldn’t obey the Lord.

Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;

Some were fools; they rebelled and suffered for their sins.

Fools suffered affliction because of their rebellious ways and their iniquities.

Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their guilty deeds, were afflicted.

Why should a living man complain, A man for the punishment of his sins?

But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague.So he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had yielded to craving.

“ How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge.

The fool has said in his heart,“ There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses:“ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.”So the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel died.Therefore the people came to Moses, and said,“ We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord that He take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding,

For the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry and struck him; I hid and was angry, And he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will also lead him, And restore comforts to him And to his mourners.

A senseless man does not know, Nor does a fool understand this.

“ Behold, it is written before Me: I will not keep silence, but will repay— Even repay into their bosom—Your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together,” Says the Lord,“ Who have burned incense on the mountains And blasphemed Me on the hills; Therefore I will measure their former work into their bosom.”

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure!For Your arrows pierce me deeply, And Your hand presses me down.There is no soundness in my flesh Because of Your anger, Nor any health in my bones Because of my sin.For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.My wounds are foul and festering Because of my foolishness.I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.For my loins are full of inflammation, And there is no soundness in my flesh.I am feeble and severely broken; I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.

Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing That you have forsaken the Lord your God, And the fear of Me is not in you,” Says the Lord GOD of hosts.

And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper.So Aaron said to Moses,“ Oh, my Lord! Please do not lay this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.Please do not let her be as one dead, whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb!”So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying,“ Please heal her, O God, I pray!”

Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
