Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High.

That’s because they hadn’t obeyed the commands of God. They had refused to follow the plans of the Most High God.

for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High.

But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till[ there was] no remedy.

And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked[ him] at the sea,[ even] at the Red sea.

How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness,[ and] grieve him in the desert!

Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.Let us lift up our heart with[ our] hands unto God in the heavens.We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

[ They that were] full have hired out themselves for bread; and[ they that were] hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,[ and] lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set[ them] among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth[ are] the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that[ the king] said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

And even as they did not like to retain God in[ their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me[ to] glory.

Thy testimonies also[ are] my delight[ and] my counsellors.

But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy,[ and] he fought against them.Then he remembered the days of old, Moses,[ and] his people,[ saying], Where[ is] he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where[ is] he that put his holy Spirit within him?

Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea,[ for] the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell[ among them].

God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry[ land].

That say, Let him make speed,[ and] hasten his work, that we may see[ it]: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know[ it]!

And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.The crown is fallen[ from] our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!For this our heart is faint; for these[ things] our eyes are dim.

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,[ and] lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;That he may set[ him] with princes,[ even] with the princes of his people.He maketh the barren woman to keep house,[ and to be] a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
