上帝屢援之、惟彼謀逆、因其罪戾、至於卑微兮、

主屢行拯救、民乃背逆、自取罪戾、日就消亡兮。

主屢次救之、彼仍設謀叛逆主、遂因罪惡消亡、

頻蒙救拔。依然怙惡。哀哉斯民。自求荼毒。

Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin.

後來，耶和華使士師興起，從掠奪者手中拯救他們。但他們不聽從士師的話，與其他神明苟合，祭拜它們，很快偏離他們祖先的道路，沒有效法他們的祖先順從耶和華的命令。耶和華見他們因敵人的壓迫和苦待而哀號，就憐憫他們，使士師陸續興起，並與每位士師同在。士師在世之日，耶和華從仇敵手中拯救他們。

不從惡人的計謀，不與罪人為伍，不和輕慢上帝的人同流合污，只喜愛耶和華的律法，晝夜默誦，這樣的人有福了！

以色列人選擇新的神明，便戰禍臨門，四萬以色列人中找不到一矛一盾。

入侵者帶著牲畜和帳篷像蝗蟲一樣湧來，人和駱駝不計其數，摧毀了整個地區。

他們卻忘記了他們的上帝耶和華，於是耶和華讓他們落入夏瑣的將軍西西拉、非利士人和摩押王的手中，這些人常常攻擊他們。他們就向耶和華呼求，『耶和華啊，我們犯了罪，我們背棄了你去供奉巴力和亞斯她錄，現在求你從仇敵手中救我們，我們必事奉你。』耶和華就派耶路·巴力、比但、耶弗他和撒母耳從周圍的敵人手中救你們，使你們安然居住。

那時，以色列全境找不到一個鐵匠，這是因為非利士人的禁令，以免希伯來人製造刀槍。

他們的所作所為觸怒耶和華，以致瘟疫降在他們中間，
