They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the Lord.

In their tents they told the Lord how unhappy they were. They didn’t obey him.

They murmured in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord.

Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord.

Yet you wouldn’t go up, but rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God.You murmured in your tents, and said,“ Because Yahweh hated us, he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us.

for he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice!Don’t harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,when your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work.

All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. The whole congregation said to them,“ We wish that we had died in the land of Egypt, or that we had died in this wilderness!Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?”They said to one another,“ Let’s choose a leader, and let’s return into Egypt.”

Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says,“ Today if you will hear his voice,don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,

because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;

while it is said,“ Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.”
