They forgot the God who saved them. They forgot the God who had done great things in Egypt.

But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold.

It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.

They did not remember his power— the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,the day he displayed his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the region of Zoan.He turned their river into blood; they could not drink from their streams.He sent swarms of flies that devoured them, and frogs that devastated them.He gave their crops to the grasshopper, their produce to the locust.He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet.He gave over their cattle to the hail, their livestock to bolts of lightning.He unleashed against them his hot anger, his wrath, indignation and hostility— a band of destroying angels.He prepared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague.He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.

They sacrificed to false gods, which are not God— gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear.You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.

You sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly the Egyptians treated them. You made a name for yourself, which remains to this day.You divided the sea before them, so that they passed through it on dry ground, but you hurled their pursuers into the depths, like a stone into mighty waters.

Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders— great and terrible— on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household.

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”

and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

Does a young woman forget her jewelry, a bride her wedding ornaments? Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number.

He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.

Yet I will show love to Judah; and I will save them— not by bow, sword or battle, or by horses and horsemen, but I, the Lord their God, will save them.”

and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

He sent his signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.

and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.

Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?

He said,“ Surely they are my people, children who will be true to me”; and so he became their Savior.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,

They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.He did miracles in the sight of their ancestors in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.

But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
