In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.

Don’t harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,when your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work.

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;

At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked Yahweh to wrath.
