In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving for meat; they challenged God in the desert.

反倒在旷野大起欲心，在荒地试探神。

在曠野縱其欲、在荒原試上帝兮、

爰至曠野、縱欲妄行、以試上帝兮、

在曠野有貪心、在荒墟試探天主、

纔得安寧。便恣淫佚。率彼曠野。惟求口實。

In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.

In the desert they longed for food. In that dry and empty land they tested God.

But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert;

In the wilderness their desires ran wild, testing God’s patience in that dry wasteland.

They were seized with craving in the wilderness and tested God in the desert.

But became lustfully greedy in the wilderness, And put God to the test in the desert.

So the people contended with Moses, and they said,“ Give us water to drink!” Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the LORD?”

These things happened as examples for us, so that we will not crave evil things as they did.

Now the mixed multitude who were among them craved more desirable foods, and so the Israelites wept again and said,“ If only we had meat to eat!

They were not yet filled up, their food was still in their mouths,

“ Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.“ There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years.“ Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said,‘ Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known my ways.’

They willfully challenged God by asking for food to satisfy their appetite.They insulted God, saying,“ Is God really able to give us food in the wilderness?Yes, he struck a rock and water flowed out, streams gushed forth. But can he also give us food? Will he provide meat for his people?”

But while the meat was still between their teeth, before they chewed it, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague.So the name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people that craved different food.

He says,“ Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, like they were that day at Massah in the wilderness,where your ancestors challenged my authority, and tried my patience, even though they had seen my work.

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him in the desert!They again challenged God, and offended the Holy One of Israel.

For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted me now these ten times, and have not obeyed me,

Moreover, you continued to provoke the LORD at Taberah, Massah, and Kibroth-Hattaavah.
