纔得安寧。便恣淫佚。率彼曠野。惟求口實。

In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.

In the desert they longed for food. In that dry and empty land they tested God.

In the wilderness their desires ran wild, testing God’s patience in that dry wasteland.

While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord struck down the people with a very great plague.Therefore the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had the craving.

do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
