發言而蝗至止、蚱蜢無數兮、

主命蝗集、千百成群、不可計數、

主一發命、蝗蟲飛集、且有蚱蜢不計其數、

主一言。飛蝗至。又蚱蜢。不可計。

He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number;

He spoke, and the locusts came. There were so many of them they couldn’t be counted.

He spoke, and hordes of locusts came— young locusts beyond number.

He ordered locusts to come, innumerable grasshoppers.

The LORD then said to Moses,“ Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, and the locusts will come up over it and eat every plant in the land, everything that the hail left.”So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD sent an east wind over the land all that day and through the night. By morning the east wind had brought in the locusts.The locusts went up over the entire land of Egypt and settled on the whole territory of Egypt. Never before had there been such a large number of locusts, and there never will be again.They covered the surface of the whole land so that the land was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left. Nothing green was left on the trees or the plants in the field throughout the land of Egypt.

He gave their crops to the caterpillar and the fruit of their labor to the locust.

Then locusts came out of the smoke on to the earth, and power was given to them like the power that scorpions have on the earth.They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green plant, or any tree, but only those people who do not have God’s seal on their foreheads.They were not permitted to kill them but were to torment them for five months; their torment is like the torment caused by a scorpion when it stings someone.In those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.The appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. Something like golden crowns was on their heads; their faces were like human faces;they had hair like women’s hair; their teeth were like lions’ teeth;they had chests like iron breastplates; the sound of their wings was like the sound of many chariots with horses rushing into battle;and they had tails with stingers like scorpions, so that with their tails they had the power to harm people for five months.

I will repay you for the years that the swarming locust ate, the young locust, the destroying locust, and the devouring locust— my great army that I sent against you.

What the devouring locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; what the swarming locust has left, the young locust has eaten; and what the young locust has left, the destroying locust has eaten.Wake up, you drunkards, and weep; wail, all you wine drinkers, because of the sweet wine, for it has been taken from your mouth.For a nation has invaded my land, powerful and without number; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the fangs of a lioness.It has devastated my grapevine and splintered my fig tree. It has stripped off its bark and thrown it away; its branches have turned white.
