“ Now a famine came over all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction with it, and our fathers could find no food.But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers there the first time.And on the second visit, Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family was revealed to Pharaoh.Then Joseph sent word and invited his father Jacob and all his relatives to come to him, seventy five people in all.And Jacob went down to Egypt, and he and our fathers died there.

And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt for seventeen years; so the length of Jacob’s life was 147 years.

And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said,“ Jacob, Jacob.” And he said,“ Here I am.”Then He said,“ I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also assuredly bring you up again; and Joseph will close your eyes.”Then Jacob left Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.They also took their livestock and their possessions, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him:his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt.

The land of Egypt is at your disposal; settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land, let them live in the land of Goshen; and if you know any capable men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.”Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him to Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.And Pharaoh said to Jacob,“ How many years have you lived?”So Jacob said to Pharaoh,“ The years of my living abroad are 130; few and unpleasant have been the years of my life, nor have they attained the years that my fathers lived during the days of their living abroad.”

They performed His wondrous acts among them, And miracles in the land of Ham.

The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him,‘ This is what your son Joseph says:“ God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay.For you shall live in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your grandchildren, and your flocks and your herds and all that you have.There I will also provide for you, for there are still five years of famine to come, and you and your household and all that you have would be impoverished.” ’

To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau, and to Esau I gave Mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
