He called down famine on the land and destroyed all their supplies of food;

He made the people in the land go hungry. He destroyed all their food supplies.

When he summoned a famine on the land and broke all supply of bread,

and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all the other lands, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food. (niv)

God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads of grain are seven years; it is one and the same dream.The seven lean, ugly cows that came up afterward are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain scorched by the east wind: They are seven years of famine.“ It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt,but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will ravage the land.The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe.The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon. I struck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not return to me,’ declares the Lord. (niv)

There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine. (niv)

This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up.When they had stripped the land clean, I cried out,“ Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”So the Lord relented.“ This will not happen,” the Lord said.This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land.
