For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity.

The stones of your destroyed city are priceless to us. Even its dust brings deep concern to us.

For your servants hold her stones dear and have pity on her dust.

For your people love every stone in her walls and cherish even the dust in her streets.

Surely Your servants take pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust.

before his colleagues and the powerful men of Samaria and said,“ What are these pathetic Jews doing? Can they restore it by themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they ever finish it? Can they bring these burnt stones back to life from the mounds of rubble?”

God, the nations have invaded your inheritance, desecrated your holy temple, and turned Jerusalem into ruins.

So we rebuilt the wall until the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had the will to keep working.

If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem as my greatest joy!

They said to me,“ The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned.”

So the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and Levites— everyone whose spirit God had roused— prepared to go up and rebuild the LORD’s house in Jerusalem.

When the seventh month arrived, and the Israelites were in their towns, the people gathered as one in Jerusalem.Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests along with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his brothers began to build the altar of Israel’s God in order to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.They set up the altar on its foundation and offered burnt offerings for the morning and evening on it to the LORD even though they feared the surrounding peoples.

Blessed be the LORD, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king’s mind to glorify the house of the LORD in Jerusalem,

So I said to them,“ You see the trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins and its gates have been burned. Come, let’s rebuild Jerusalem’s wall, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”

for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his homeland.Do not hold past iniquities against us; let your compassion come to us quickly, for we have become very weak.God of our salvation, help us, for the glory of your name. Rescue us and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake.Why should the nations ask,“ Where is their God?” Before our eyes, let vengeance for the shed blood of your servants be known among the nations.

Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, may your anger and wrath turn away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors, Jerusalem and your people have become an object of ridicule to all those around us.

In Judah, it was said: The strength of the laborer fails, since there is so much rubble. We will never be able to rebuild the wall.

and replied to the king,“ May the king live forever! Why should I not be sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”
