Know that the Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him. We are his people. We are the sheep belonging to his flock.

He says,“ Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, am with them and that they, the Israelites, are my people, declares the Sovereign Lord.You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

For“ you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

“ Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me?Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again?Did you not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese,clothe me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews?You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit.“ But this is what you concealed in your heart, and I know that this was in your mind:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will proclaim your praise.

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.

Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.

Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.But now that you know God— or rather are known by God— how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.”

But he brought his people out like a flock; he led them like sheep through the wilderness.

You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah,“ Here is your God!”See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed:“ Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried,“ The Lord— he is God! The Lord— he is God!”

We are yours from of old; but you have not ruled over them, they have not been called by your name.

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them— not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

“ I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father— and I lay down my life for the sheep.I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

“‘ For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.

This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

O God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?Remember the nation you purchased long ago, the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed— Mount Zion, where you dwelt.

But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.

Then his people recalled the days of old, the days of Moses and his people— where is he who brought them through the sea, with the shepherd of his flock? Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them,

For God, who said,“ Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.

Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while you smile on the plans of the wicked?

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship— and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.“ The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.

Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say,“ I find no pleasure in them”—

those who say,“ By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us— who is lord over us?”
