Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for silver, And the poor for a pair of sandals.They pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor, And pervert the way of the humble. A man and his father go in to the same girl, To defile My holy name.

“ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the Lord;“ I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.”

He has been to me a bear lying in wait, Like a lion in ambush.

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah

What do you mean by crushing My people And grinding the faces of the poor?” Says the Lord GOD of hosts.

‘ For among My people are found wicked men; They lie in wait as one who sets snares; They set a trap; They catch men.

But do not yield to them, for more than forty of them lie in wait for him, men who have bound themselves by an oath that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.”

The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct.

For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, To save him from those who condemn him.
