He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.

He brags about what his heart desires. He speaks well of those who always want more. He attacks the Lord with his words.

For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the Lord.

For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the LORD.

For the wicked boasts of his soul’s desire, And the greedy person curses and shows disrespect to the Lord.

For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, And the covetous renounceth, yea, contemneth Jehovah.

Yes, the wicked man boasts because he gets what he wants; the one who robs others curses and rejects the LORD.

For the wicked boasts of his heart’s cravings. He blesses the greedy and condemns Yahweh.

How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast?

“ But you! You have eyes only for greed and dishonesty! You murder the innocent, oppress the poor, and reign ruthlessly.”

What shall I say about the homes of the wicked filled with treasures gained by cheating? What about the disgusting practice of measuring out grain with dishonest measures?How can I tolerate your merchants who use dishonest scales and weights?The rich among you have become wealthy through extortion and violence. Your citizens are so used to lying that their tongues can no longer tell the truth.

And I’ll sit back and say to myself,“ My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’

They trust in their wealth and boast of great riches.

The buyers slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers say,‘ Praise the Lord! Now I’m rich!’ Even the shepherds have no compassion for them.Likewise, I will no longer have pity on the people of the land,” says the Lord.“ I will let them fall into each other’s hands and into the hands of their king. They will turn the land into a wilderness, and I will not rescue them.”So I cared for the flock intended for slaughter— the flock that was oppressed. Then I took two shepherd’s staffs and named one Favor and the other Union.I got rid of their three evil shepherds in a single month. But I became impatient with these sheep, and they hated me, too.

The grave is their eternal home, where they will stay forever. They may name their estates after themselves,but their fame will not last. They will die, just like animals.This is the fate of fools, though they are remembered as being wise. Interlude

You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers.

“ Whom have you been defying and ridiculing? Against whom did you raise your voice? At whom did you look with such haughty eyes? It was the Holy One of Israel!

But no, the people are like crafty merchants selling from dishonest scales— they love to cheat.Israel boasts,“ I am rich! I’ve made a fortune all by myself! No one has caught me cheating! My record is spotless!”

“ The Lord bless you,” Saul said.“ At last someone is concerned about me!

Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.

To reject the law is to praise the wicked; to obey the law is to fight them.

“ Have I put my trust in money or felt secure because of my gold?

“ The enemy boasted,‘ I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’

I was angry, so I punished these greedy people. I withdrew from them, but they kept going on their own stubborn way.

Then he said,“ Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self control. They will be cruel and hate what is good.They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.

I will destroy your pagan shrines and knock down your places of worship. I will leave your lifeless corpses piled on top of your lifeless idols, and I will despise you.

They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

Look here, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.”

and asked,“ How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.

Why do you boast about your crimes, great warrior? Don’t you realize God’s justice continues forever?

The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him.Then he said to them,“ You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.

They shout,“ Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we saw him do it!”

But the king of Assyria will not understand that he is my tool; his mind does not work that way. His plan is simply to destroy, to cut down nation after nation.He will say,‘ Each of my princes will soon be a king.We destroyed Calno just as we did Carchemish. Hamath fell before us as Arpad did. And we destroyed Samaria just as we did Damascus.Yes, we have finished off many a kingdom whose gods were greater than those in Jerusalem and Samaria.So we will defeat Jerusalem and her gods, just as we destroyed Samaria with hers.’”

In this life they consider themselves fortunate and are applauded for their success.

or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people— none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

“ What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family’s nest beyond the reach of danger.

“ The Lord saw this and drew back, provoked to anger by his own sons and daughters.

“ Those who hear the warnings of this curse should not congratulate themselves, thinking,‘ I am safe, even though I am following the desires of my own stubborn heart.’ This would lead to utter ruin!

They scoff and speak only evil; in their pride they seek to crush others.They boast against the very heavens, and their words strut throughout the earth.

Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
