Now David said,“ Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries. I will now make preparation for it.” So David made abundant preparations before his death.

Furthermore King David said to all the assembly:“ My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced; and the work is great, because the temple is not for man but for the Lord God.

O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

“ And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the Lord loved him,and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.

Go immediately to King David and say to him,‘ Did you not, my Lord, O king, swear to your maidservant, saying,“ Assuredly your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’Then, while you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words.”So Bathsheba went into the chamber to the king.( Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.)And Bathsheba bowed and did homage to the king. Then the king said,“ What is your wish?”Then she said to him,“ My Lord, you swore by the Lord your God to your maidservant, saying,‘ Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon— four by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel.
