For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother.

I, too, was once a young boy in my father’s house. And my mother loved me deeply.

David said,“ My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord shall be exceedingly magnificent, famous, and glorious throughout the lands. Therefore I now will make preparations for it.” So David made ample preparations before his death.

Then King David said to the entire assembly,“ My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the temple is not for mankind, but for the Lord God.

I know, Lord, that a person’s way is not in himself, Nor is it in a person who walks to direct his steps.

“ And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and went in to her and slept with her; and she gave birth to a son, and he named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved him,and sent word through Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah for the Lord’s sake.

Go at once to King David and say to him,‘ Have you not, my lord the king, sworn to your servant, saying,“ Solomon your son certainly shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’Behold, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and confirm your words.”So Bathsheba entered to the king in the bedroom. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.Then Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king. And the king said,“ What is on your mind?”So she said to him,“ My lord, you yourself swore to your servant by the Lord your God, saying,‘ Your son Solomon certainly shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.
