just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you,Make your ear attentive to wisdom; Incline your heart to understanding.For if you cry out for insight, And raise your voice for understanding;If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures;Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And discover the knowledge of God.

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.

“ Now then, sons, listen to me, For blessed are those who keep my ways.Listen to instruction and be wise, And do not neglect it.Blessed is the person who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at my doorposts.For one who finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord.But one who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death.”

Say to wisdom,“ You are my sister,” And call understanding your intimate friend,

My son, comply with the commandment of your father, And do not ignore the teaching of your mother;Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.When you walk, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And rebukes for discipline are the way of life
