Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said,“ Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”And Mary said:“ My soul magnifies the Lord,And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.And His mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation.He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty.He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy,As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.”And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her house.

So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Then Queen Esther answered and said,“ If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.For we have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have held my tongue, although the enemy could never compensate for the king’s loss.”So King Ahasuerus answered and said to Queen Esther,“ Who is he, and where is he, who would dare presume in his heart to do such a thing?”And Esther said,“ The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!” So Haman was terrified before the king and queen.

Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,

By long forbearance a ruler is persuaded, And a gentle tongue breaks a bone.

Then a wise woman cried out from the city,“ Hear, Hear! Please say to Joab,‘ Come nearby, that I may speak with you.’”When he had come near to her, the woman said,“ Are you Joab?” He answered,“ I am.” Then she said to him,“ Hear the words of your maidservant.” And he answered,“ I am listening.”So she spoke, saying,“ They used to talk in former times, saying,‘ They shall surely seek guidance at Abel,’ and so they would end disputes.I am among the peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?”And Joab answered and said,“ Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy!That is not so. But a man from the mountains of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has raised his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city.” So the woman said to Joab,“ Watch, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”Then the woman in her wisdom went to all the people. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. Then he blew a trumpet, and they withdrew from the city, every man to his tent. So Joab returned to the king at Jerusalem.

So she fell at his feet and said:“ On me, my Lord, on me let this iniquity be! And please let your maidservant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your maidservant.Please, let not my Lord regard this scoundrel Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the young men of my Lord whom you sent.Now therefore, my Lord, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, since the Lord has held you back from coming to bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now then, let your enemies and those who seek harm for my Lord be as Nabal.And now this present which your maidservant has brought to my Lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my Lord.Please forgive the trespass of your maidservant. For the Lord will certainly make for my Lord an enduring house, because my Lord fights the battles of the Lord, and evil is not found in you throughout your days.Yet a man has risen to pursue you and seek your life, but the life of my Lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the Lord your God; and the lives of your enemies He shall sling out, as from the pocket of a sling.And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has done for my Lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ruler over Israel,that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my Lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my Lord has avenged himself. But when the Lord has dealt well with my Lord, then remember your maidservant.”

“ O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your face is lovely.”

Then Mary said,“ Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Now Esther spoke again to the king, fell down at his feet, and implored him with tears to counteract the evil of Haman the Agagite, and the scheme which he had devised against the Jews.And the king held out the golden scepter toward Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king,and said,“ If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight and the thing seems right to the king and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to annihilate the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.For how can I endure to see the evil that will come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my countrymen?”

Then she said to them,“ Thus says the Lord God of Israel,‘ Tell the man who sent you to Me,“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Behold, I will bring calamity on this place and on its inhabitants— all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read—because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.’”’But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him,‘ Thus says the Lord God of Israel:“ Concerning the words which you have heard—because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the Lord.“ Surely, therefore, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place.”’” So they brought back word to the king.

So Esther’s maids and eunuchs came and told her, and the queen was deeply distressed. Then she sent garments to clothe Mordecai and take his sackcloth away from him, but he would not accept them.

So she said,“ Drink, my Lord.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said,“ I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
