But a man from the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has raised his hand against King David. Only turn him over, and I will depart from the city.” And the woman said to Joab,“ Behold, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”Then the woman wisely came to all the people. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and threw it to Joab. So he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, each to his tent. Joab also returned to the king at Jerusalem.

She fell at his feet and said,“ On me alone, my lord, be the blame. And please let your slave speak to you, and listen to the words of your slave.Please do not let my lord pay attention to this worthless man, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and stupidity is with him; but I your slave did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent.“ Now then, my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, since the Lord has restrained you from shedding blood, and from avenging yourself by your own hand, now then, may your enemies and those who seek evil against my lord, be like Nabal.And now let this gift which your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who accompany my lord.Please forgive the offense of your slave; for the Lord will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the Lord, and evil will not be found in you all your days.Should anyone rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, then the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the Lord your God; but the lives of your enemies He will sling out as from the hollow of a sling.And when the Lord does for my lord in accordance with all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and appoints you ruler over Israel,this will not become an obstacle to you, or a troubled heart to my lord, both by having shed blood without cause and by my lord’s having avenged himself. When the Lord deals well with my lord, then remember your slave.”

“ My dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the hiding place of the mountain pathway, Let me see how you look, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is pleasant, And you look delightful.”

And Mary said,“ Behold, the Lord’s bond servant; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Then Esther spoke again to the king, fell at his feet, wept, and pleaded for his compassion to avert the evil scheme of Haman the Agagite and his plot which he had devised against the Jews.And the king extended the golden scepter to Esther. So Esther got up and stood before the king.Then she said,“ If it pleases the king and if I have found favor before him, and the matter seems proper to the king and I am pleasing in his sight, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to eliminate the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.For how can I endure to see the disaster which will happen to my people, and how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?”

Then she said to them,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ Tell the man who sent you to Me,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Behold, I am going to bring disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.Since they have abandoned Me and have burned incense to other gods so that they may provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands, My wrath burns against this place, and it shall not be quenched.’ ”But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord, this is what you shall say to him:“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ Regarding the words which you have heard,since your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become an object of horror and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I have indeed heard you,’ declares the Lord.”Therefore, behold, I am going to gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not look at all the devastation that I am going to bring on this place.’ ” So they brought back word to the king.

Then Esther’s attendants and her eunuchs came and informed her, and the queen was seized by great fear. And she sent garments to clothe Mordecai so that he would remove his sackcloth from him, but he did not accept them.

And she said,“ Drink, my lord”; then she quickly lowered her jar to her hand, and gave him a drink.Now when she had finished giving him a drink, she said,“ I will also draw water for your camels until they have finished drinking.”So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, and ran back to the well to draw, and she drew for all his camels.
