No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven— the Son of Man.

It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask,“ Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:“ The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”( which means“ God with us”).

He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor?Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding?Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals enough for burnt offerings.Before him all the nations are as nothing; they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing.With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him?As for an idol, a metalworker casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and fashions silver chains for it.A person too poor to present such an offering selects wood that will not rot; they look for a skilled worker to set up an idol that will not topple.Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded?He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.“ To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel,“ My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.

But the righteousness that is by faith says:“ Do not say in your heart,‘ Who will ascend into heaven?’”( that is, to bring Christ down)

His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.

This is why it says:“ When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”( What does“ he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions?He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)

Moses said to God,“ Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them,‘ The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me,‘ What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”God said to Moses,“ I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites:‘ I am has sent me to you.’”God also said to Moses,“ Say to the Israelites,‘ The Lord, the God of your fathers— the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob— has sent me to you.’“ This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord.And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming,“ The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me,“ You are my son; today I have become your father.

“ Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?“ Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness,when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place,when I said,‘ This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?“ Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place,that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment.The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken.“ Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness?Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this.“ What is the way to the abode of light? And where does darkness reside?Can you take them to their places? Do you know the paths to their dwellings?Surely you know, for you were already born! You have lived so many years!“ Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of the hail,which I reserve for times of trouble, for days of war and battle?What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed, or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm,to water a land where no one lives, an uninhabited desert,to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass?Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew?From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavenswhen the waters become hard as stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen?“ Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion’s belt?Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs?Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?“ Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover yourself with a flood of water?Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you,‘ Here we are’?Who gives the ibis wisdom or gives the rooster understanding?Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavenswhen the dust becomes hard and the clods of earth stick together?“ Do you hunt the prey for the lioness and satisfy the hunger of the lionswhen they crouch in their dens or lie in wait in a thicket?Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tentand lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers.The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works—he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke.I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord.

If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name— the Lord your God—

He replied,“ Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding.”

In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,

When you ascended on high, you took many captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious— that you, Lord God, might dwell there.

Jacob said,“ Please tell me your name.” But he replied,“ Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.

“ All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

“ All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself fully known to them.
