“ One person makes fun of their father. Another doesn’t honor their mother when she is old. The ravens of the valley will peck out their eyes. Then the vultures will eat them.

“ The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures.

The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

The eye that mocks a father and despises a mother’s instructions will be plucked out by ravens of the valley and eaten by vultures.

As for the eye that ridicules a father and despises obedience to a mother, may ravens of the valley pluck it out and young vultures eat it.

Listen to your father, who gave you life. Don’t hate your mother when she is old.

Suppose someone has a very stubborn son. He doesn’t obey his father and mother. And he won’t listen to them when they try to correct him.Then his parents will take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town.They will say to the elders,“ This son of ours is very stubborn. He won’t obey us. He eats too much. He’s always getting drunk.”Then all the people in his town will put him to death by throwing stones at him. Get rid of that evil person. All the Israelites will hear about it. And they will be afraid to disobey their parents.

“ Some people curse their fathers. Others don’t bless their mothers.

Joab said,“ I’m not going to waste any more time on you.” So he got three javelins. Then he went over and plunged them into Absalom’s heart. He did it while Absalom was still hanging there alive in the oak tree.Ten of the men carrying Joab’s armor surrounded Absalom. They struck him and killed him.Then Joab blew his trumpet. He ordered his troops to stop chasing Israel’s army.Joab’s men threw Absalom into a big pit in the forest. They covered him with a large pile of rocks. While all of that was going on, all the Israelites ran back to their homes.

Aiah’s daughter Rizpah took some rough cloth people wear when they’re sad. She spread it out for herself on a rock. She stayed there from the beginning of the harvest until it rained. The rain poured down from the sky on the dead bodies of the seven males. She didn’t let the birds touch them by day. She didn’t let the wild animals touch them at night.

“‘ Anyone who asks for bad things to happen to their father or mother must be put to death. They have cursed their father or mother. So anything that happens to them will be their own fault.

“ Come over here,” he said.“ I’ll feed your body to the birds and wild animals!”

When he drank some of the wine, it made him drunk. Then he lay down inside his tent without any clothes on.Ham saw his father naked. Then Ham, the father of Canaan, went outside and told his two brothers.But Shem and Japheth picked up a piece of clothing and laid it across their shoulders. Then they walked backward into the tent. They covered their father’s body. They turned their faces away because they didn’t want to see their father naked.Then Noah woke up from his sleep that was caused by the wine. He found out what his youngest son had done to him.He said,“ May a curse be put on Canaan! He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers.”Noah also said,“ May the Lord, the God of Shem, be praised. May Canaan be the slave of Shem.May God add land to Japheth’s territory. May Japheth live in the tents of Shem. And may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.”

Birds and wild animals will eat up your dead bodies. There won’t be anyone left to scare them away.

If anyone asks for bad things to happen to their father or mother, that person’s lamp will be blown out in total darkness.

Absalom happened to come across some of David’s men. He was riding his mule. The mule went under the thick branches of a large oak tree. Absalom’s hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in the air. The mule he was riding kept on going.One of David’s men saw what had happened. He told Joab,“ I just saw Absalom hanging in an oak tree.”
