Then David said to him,“ Will you bring me down to this band of raiders?” And he said,“ Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or hand me over to my master, and I will bring you down to this band.”

And David said to Saul,“ Why do you listen to the words of men who say,‘ Behold, David is seeking to harm you’?

Then they responded and spoke before the king,“ Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the injunction which you signed, but keeps offering his prayer three times a day.”

“ You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you.

So Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had shown him, but he murdered his son. And as Zechariah died he said,“ May the Lord see and avenge!”Now it happened at the turn of the year that the army of the Arameans came up against Joash; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, destroyed all the officials of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoils to the king of Damascus.Indeed, the army of the Arameans came with a small number of men; yet the Lord handed a very great army over to them, because Judah and Joash had abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

So he said,“ My lord the king, my servant betrayed me; for your servant said,‘ I will saddle the donkey for myself so that I may ride on it and go with the king,’ since your servant cannot walk.Furthermore, he has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is like the angel of God, therefore do what is good in your sight.

These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.One who says to the wicked,“ You are righteous,” Peoples will curse him, nations will scold him;

Then Doeg the Edomite, who was standing in front of the servants of Saul, responded and said,“ I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.And he inquired of the Lord for him, gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

Now when David had gone on a little beyond the summit, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him with a team of saddled donkeys, and on them were two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a jug of wine.And the king said to Ziba,“ Why do you have these?” And Ziba said,“ The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine, for whoever is weary in the wilderness to drink.”Then the king said,“ And where is your master’s son?” And Ziba said to the king,“ Behold, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said,‘ Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’ ”So the king said to Ziba,“ Behold, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.” And Ziba said,“ I prostrate myself; may I find favor in your sight, my lord, the king!”

Now then, please let my lord the king listen to the words of his servant. If the Lord has incited you against me, may He accept an offering; but if it is people, cursed are they before the Lord, because they have driven me out today so that I would have no share in the inheritance of the Lord, saying,‘ Go, serve other gods.’

Be careful that there is no mean spirited thought in your heart, such as,‘ The seventh year, the year of release of debts, is near,’ and your eye is malicious toward your poor brother, and you give him nothing; then he may cry out to the Lord against you, and it will be a sin in you.

Also, do not take seriously all the words which are spoken, so that you do not hear your servant cursing you,

For this reason at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and brought charges against the Jews.They began to speak and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king:“ O king, live forever!You, O king, have made a decree that every person who hears the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, and bagpipe, and all kinds of musical instruments, is to fall down and worship the golden statue.But whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into the middle of a furnace of blazing fire.There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the administration of the province of Babylon, namely Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego. These men, O king, have disregarded you; they do not serve your gods, nor do they worship the golden statue which you have set up.”Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and anger gave orders to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego; then these men were brought before the king.Nebuchadnezzar began speaking and said to them,“ Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego, that you do not serve my gods, nor worship the golden statue that I have set up?Now if you are ready, at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery and bagpipe, and all kinds of musical instruments, to fall down and worship the statue that I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and what god is there who can rescue you from my hands?”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego replied to the king,“ Nebuchadnezzar, we are not in need of an answer to give you concerning this matter.If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will rescue us from your hand, O king.But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods nor worship the golden statue that you have set up.”

The king then gave orders, and they brought those men who had maliciously accused Daniel, and they threw them, their children, and their wives into the lions’ den; and they had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

One who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.

One who gives to the poor will never lack anything, But one who shuts his eyes will have many curses.
