Scornful people inflame a city, but those who are wise turn away wrath.

Mockers stir up a city, but the wise turn away anger.

Those who make fun of others stir up a city. But wise people turn anger away.

Scoffers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath.

Mockers can get a whole town agitated, but the wise will calm anger.

Mockers inflame a city, but the wise turn away anger.

Arrogant people inflame a city, But wise people turn away anger.

Scoffers set a city aflame, But wise men turn away wrath.

Scoffers set a city in a flame; But wise men turn away wrath.

Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise[ men] turn away wrath.

Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.

A city is exalted by the blessing provided from the upright, but it is destroyed by the counsel of the wicked.

Then the LORD said to me,“ Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading for these people, I would not feel pity for them! Get them away from me! Tell them to go away!

So too the tongue is a small part of the body, yet it has great pretensions. Think how small a flame sets a huge forest ablaze.And the tongue is a fire! The tongue represents the world of wrongdoing among the parts of our bodies. It pollutes the entire body and sets fire to the course of human existence– and is set on fire by hell.

Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and asked him,“ We are not blind too, are we?”Jesus replied,“ If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin, but now because you claim that you can see, your guilt remains.”

Then I again fell down before the LORD for forty days and nights; I ate and drank nothing because of all the sin you had committed, doing such evil before the LORD as to enrage him.For I was terrified at the LORD’s intense anger that threatened to destroy you. But he listened to me this time as well.The LORD was also angry enough at Aaron to kill him, but at that time I prayed for him too.

Those who passed by defamed him, shaking their headsand saying,“ You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are God’s Son, come down from the cross!”In the same way even the chief priests– together with the experts in the law and elders– were mocking him:“ He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down now from the cross, we will believe in him!He trusts in God– let God, if he wants to, deliver him now because he said,‘ I am God’s Son’!”

who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and persecuted us severely. They are displeasing to God and are opposed to all people,because they hinder us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. Thus they constantly fill up their measure of sins, but wrath has come upon them completely.

A king’s wrath is like a messenger of death, but a wise person appeases it.

He stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stopped.

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up– and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness.Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and there was no rain on the land for three years and six months!Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land sprouted with a harvest.

“ Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites, when he manifested such zeal for my sake among them, so that I did not consume the Israelites in my zeal.

When the angel extended his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented from his judgment. He told the angel who was killing the people,“ That’s enough! Stop now!”( Now the LORD’s angel was near the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.)When he saw the angel who was destroying the people, David said to the LORD,“ Look, it is I who have sinned and done this evil thing! As for these sheep– what have they done? Attack me and my family.”

So now, leave me alone so that my anger can burn against them and I can destroy them, and I will make from you a great nation.”But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God and said,“ O LORD, why does your anger burn against your people, whom you have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?Why should the Egyptians say,‘ For evil he led them out to kill them in the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger, and relent of this evil against your people.Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel your servants, to whom you swore by yourself and told them,‘ I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken about I will give to your descendants, and they will inherit it forever.’”Then the LORD relented over the evil that he had said he would do to his people.

So the chief priests and the Pharisees called the council together and said,“ What are we doing? For this man is performing many miraculous signs.If we allow him to go on in this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away our sanctuary and our nation.”Then one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said,“ You know nothing at all!You do not realize that it is more to your advantage to have one man die for the people than for the whole nation to perish.”

When they had completely consumed the earth’s vegetation, I said,“ Sovereign LORD, forgive Israel! How can Jacob survive? He is too weak!”The LORD decided not to do this.“ It will not happen,” the LORD said.The sovereign LORD showed me this: I saw the sovereign LORD summoning a shower of fire. It consumed the great deep and devoured the fields.I said,“ Sovereign LORD, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is too weak!”The LORD decided not to do this. The sovereign LORD said,“ This will not happen either.”

“ I looked for a man from among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it, but I found no one.

Therefore, listen to the LORD’s word, you who mock, you rulers of these people who reside in Jerusalem!For you say,“ We have made a treaty with death, with Sheol we have made an agreement. When the overwhelming judgment sweeps by it will not reach us. For we have made a lie our refuge, we have hidden ourselves in a deceitful word.”Therefore, this is what the sovereign master, the LORD, says:“ Look, I am laying a stone in Zion, an approved stone, set in place as a precious cornerstone for the foundation. The one who maintains his faith will not panic.I will make justice the measuring line, fairness the plumb line; hail will sweep away the unreliable refuge, the floodwaters will overwhelm the hiding place.Your treaty with death will be dissolved; your agreement with Sheol will not last. When the overwhelming judgment sweeps by, you will be overrun by it.Whenever it sweeps by, it will overtake you; indeed, every morning it will sweep by, it will come through during the day and the night.” When this announcement is understood, it will cause nothing but terror.For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap around oneself.For the LORD will rise up, as he did at Mount Perazim, he will rouse himself, as he did in the Valley of Gibeon, to accomplish his work, his peculiar work, to perform his task, his strange task.So now, do not mock, or your chains will become heavier! For I have heard a message about decreed destruction, from the sovereign master, the LORD who commands armies, against the entire land.
