Mockers stir up a city, but the wise turn away anger.

Those who make fun of others stir up a city. But wise people turn anger away.

Scoffers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath.

Mockers can get a whole town agitated, but the wise will calm anger.

Mockers inflame a city, but the wise turn away anger.

Arrogant people inflame a city, But wise people turn away anger.

Scoffers set a city aflame, But wise men turn away wrath.

Scoffers set a city in a flame; But wise men turn away wrath.

Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise[ men] turn away wrath.

Scornful people inflame a city, but those who are wise turn away wrath.

Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.

A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked.

Then the Lord said to me:“ Even if Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My compassions would not reach out to these people. Send them from My presence, and let them go.

So too, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it boasts great things. Consider how large a forest a small fire ignites.And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among the parts of our bodies. It pollutes the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by hell.

Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and asked Him,“ We aren’t blind too, are we?”“ If you were blind,” Jesus told them,“ you wouldn’t have sin. But now that you say,‘ We see’— your sin remains.

Then I fell down like the first time in the presence of the Lord for 40 days and 40 nights; I did not eat bread or drink water because of all the sin you committed, doing what was evil in the Lord’s sight and provoking Him to anger.I was afraid of the fierce anger the Lord had directed against you, because He was about to destroy you. But again the Lord listened to me on that occasion.The Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. But I prayed for Aaron at that time also.

Those who passed by were yelling insults at Him, shaking their headsand saying,“ The One who would demolish the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked Him and said,“ He saved others, but He cannot save Himself! He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.He has put His trust in God; let God rescue Him now— if He wants Him! For He said,‘ I am God’s Son.’”

who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and persecuted us; they displease God and are hostile to everyone,hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. As a result, they are always completing the number of their sins, and wrath has overtaken them at last.

A king’s fury is a messenger of death, but a wise man appeases it.

He stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was halted.

The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will restore him to health; if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.Elijah was a man with a nature like ours; yet he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land.Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its fruit.

“ Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the Israelites because he was zealous among them with My zeal, so that I did not destroy the Israelites in My zeal.

Then the angel extended his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, but the Lord relented concerning the destruction and said to the angel who was destroying the people,“ Enough, withdraw your hand now!” The angel of the Lord was then at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.When David saw the angel striking the people, he said to the Lord,“ Look, I am the one who has sinned; I am the one who has done wrong. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your hand be against me and my father’s family.”

Now leave Me alone, so that My anger can burn against them and I can destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”But Moses interceded with the Lord his God:“ Lord, why does Your anger burn against Your people You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a strong hand?Why should the Egyptians say,‘ He brought them out with an evil intent to kill them in the mountains and wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from Your great anger and relent concerning this disaster planned for Your people.Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel— You swore to them by Your very self and declared,‘ I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and will give your offspring all this land that I have promised, and they will inherit it forever.’”So the Lord relented concerning the disaster He said He would bring on His people.

So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and said,“ What are we going to do since this man does many signs?If we let Him continue in this way, everyone will believe in Him! Then the Romans will come and remove both our place and our nation.”One of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all!You’re not considering that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish.”

When the locusts finished eating the vegetation of the land, I said,“ Lord God, please forgive! How will Jacob survive since he is so small?”The Lord relented concerning this.“ It will not happen,” He said.The Lord God showed me this: The Lord God was calling for a judgment by fire. It consumed the great deep and devoured the land.Then I said,“ Lord God, please stop! How will Jacob survive since he is so small?”The Lord relented concerning this.“ This will not happen either,” said the Lord God.

I searched for a man among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land so that I might not destroy it, but I found no one.

Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you mockers who rule this people in Jerusalem.For you said,“ We have cut a deal with Death, and we have made an agreement with Sheol; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, it will not touch us, because we have made falsehood our refuge and have hidden behind treachery.”Therefore the Lord God said:“ Look, I have laid a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will be unshakable.And I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the mason’s level.” Hail will sweep away the false refuge, and water will flood your hiding place.Your deal with Death will be dissolved, and your agreement with Sheol will not last. When the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be trampled.Every time it passes through, it will carry you away; it will pass through every morning— every day and every night. Only terror will cause you to understand the message.Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on, and its cover too small to wrap up in.For the Lord will rise up as He did at Mount Perazim. He will rise in wrath, as at the Valley of Gibeon, to do His work, His strange work, and to perform His task, His disturbing task.So now, do not mock, or your shackles will become stronger. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord God of Hosts a decree of destruction for the whole land.
