The fear of people becomes a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD will be set on high.

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

If you are afraid of people, it will trap you. But if you trust in the Lord, he will keep you safe.

The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.

The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the LORD is protected.

The LORD says,“ Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me.

The name of the LORD is like a strong tower; the righteous person runs to it and is set safely on high.

The one who deals wisely in a matter will find success, and blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD.

Nevertheless, even among the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they would not confess Jesus to be the Christ, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue.For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion; it cannot be upended and will endure forever.

Every word of God is purified; he is like a shield for those who take refuge in him.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A slave girl came to him and said,“ You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”But he denied it in front of them all:“ I don’t know what you’re talking about!”When he went out to the gateway, another slave girl saw him and said to the people there,“ This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”He denied it again with an oath,“ I do not know the man!”After a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said,“ You really are one of them too– even your accent gives you away!”At that he began to curse, and he swore with an oath,“ I do not know the man!” At that moment a rooster crowed.

Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

( His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jewish religious leaders. For the Jewish leaders had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus to be the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.

They received divine help in fighting them, and the Hagrites and all their allies were handed over to them. They cried out to God during the battle; he responded to their prayers because they trusted in him.

When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he replied,“ She is my sister.” He was afraid to say,“ She is my wife,” for he thought to himself,“ The men of this place will kill me to get Rebekah because she is very beautiful.”

Whom are you worried about? Whom do you fear, that you would act so deceitfully and not remember me or think about me? Because I have been silent for so long, you are not afraid of me.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The greedy person stirs up dissension, but the one who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

David thought to himself,“ One of these days I’m going to be swept away by the hand of Saul! There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of searching for me through all the territory of Israel and I will escape from his hand.”

Elijah was afraid, so he got up and fled for his life to Beer Sheba in Judah. He left his servant there,

Then the disciples came to him and said,“ Do you know that when the Pharisees heard this saying they were offended?”

Then the king was delighted and gave an order to haul Daniel up from the den. So Daniel was hauled up out of the den. He had no injury of any kind, because he had trusted in his God.

It is best to take hold of one warning without letting go of the other warning; for the one who fears God will follow both warnings.

Abraham said about his wife Sarah,“ She is my sister.” So Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent for Sarah and took her.

Abraham replied,“ Because I thought,‘ Surely no one fears God in this place. They will kill me because of my wife.’

Then Saul said to Samuel,“ I have sinned, for I have disobeyed what the LORD commanded and what you said as well. For I was afraid of the army, and I followed their wishes.

But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he had clearly done wrong.Until certain people came from James, he had been eating with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he stopped doing this and separated himself because he was afraid of those who were pro- circumcision.And the rest of the Jews also joined with him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray with them by their hypocrisy.

As he approached Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai,“ Look, I know that you are a beautiful woman.When the Egyptians see you they will say,‘ This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will keep you alive.So tell them you are my sister so that it may go well for me because of you and my life will be spared on account of you.”

I am oppressed and suffering! O God, deliver and protect me!

From this point on, Pilate tried to release him. But the Jewish leaders shouted out,“ If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar! Everyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar!”When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat in the place called“ The Stone Pavement”( Gabbatha in Aramaic).

Aaron said,“ Do not let your anger burn hot, my lord; you know these people, that they tend to evil.They said to me,‘ Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this fellow Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.’So I said to them,‘ Whoever has gold, break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
