People of bloodshed hate the blameless person, But the upright are concerned for his life.

but with Cain and his offering he was not pleased. Then what remains of Judah will disappear.”But Gedaliah son of Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah,“ Do not do that because what you are saying about Ishmael is not true.”

Then I said to the people of Judah,“ Listen and pay attention! Do not be arrogant! For the LORD has spoken.Show the LORD your God the respect that is due him. Do it before he brings the darkness of disaster. Do it before you stumble into distress like a traveler on the mountains at twilight. Do it before he turns the light of deliverance you hope for into the darkness and gloom of exile.But if you will not pay attention to this warning, I will weep alone because of your arrogant pride. I will weep bitterly and my eyes will overflow with tears because you, the LORD’s flock, will be carried into exile.”

“ If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me first.If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you do not belong to the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you.

They all came to the king.Then Saul said,“ Listen, son of Ahitub.” He replied,“ Here I am, my lord.”Saul said to him,“ Why have you conspired against me, you and this son of Jesse? You gave him bread and a sword and inquired of God on his behalf, so that he opposes me and waits in ambush, as is the case today!”Ahimelech replied to the king,“ Who among all your servants is faithful like David? He is the king’s son-in-law, the leader of your bodyguard, and honored in your house!Was it just today that I began to inquire of God on his behalf? Far be it from me! The king should not accuse his servant or any of my father’s house. For your servant is not aware of all this– not in whole or in part!”But the king said,“ You will surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!Then the king said to the messengers who were stationed beside him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the LORD, for they too have sided with David! They knew he was fleeing, but they did not inform me.” But the king’s servants refused to harm the priests of the LORD.Then the king said to Doeg,“ You turn and strike down the priests!” So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests. He killed on that day eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.As for Nob, the city of the priests, he struck down with the sword men and women, children and infants, oxen, donkeys, and sheep– all with the sword.But one of the sons of Ahimelech son of Ahitub escaped and fled to David. His name was Abiathar.Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LORD.Then David said to Abiathar,“ I knew that day when Doeg the Edomite was there that he would certainly tell Saul! I am guilty of all the deaths in your father’s house!Stay with me. Don’t be afraid! Whoever seeks my life is seeking your life as well. You are secure with me.”

Should good be paid back with evil? Yet they are virtually digging a pit to kill me. Just remember how I stood before you pleading on their behalf to keep you from venting your anger on them.

So she went out and said to her mother,“ What should I ask for?” Her mother said,“ The head of John the baptizer.”Immediately she hurried back to the king and made her request:“ I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.”Although it grieved the king deeply, he did not want to reject her request because of his oath and his guests.So the king sent an executioner at once to bring John’s head, and he went and beheaded John in prison.

Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God on behalf of my fellow Israelites is for their salvation.

For he is as good as dead!”Jonathan responded to his father Saul,“ Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”Then Saul threw his spear at Jonathan in order to strike him down. So Jonathan was convinced that his father had decided to kill David.
