God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Then the man replied,“ The woman You gave to be with me— she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate.”So the Lord God asked the woman,“ What is this you have done?” And the woman said,“ It was the serpent. He deceived me, and I ate.”

Whoever conceals an offense promotes love, but whoever gossips about it separates friends.

“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said.“ What’s that to us?” they said.“ See to it yourself!”So he threw the silver into the sanctuary and departed. Then he went and hanged himself.

Hatred stirs up conflicts, but love covers all offenses.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence!Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so the outside of it may also become clean.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity.In the same way, on the outside you seem righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

When Samuel came to him, Saul said,“ May the Lord bless you. I have carried out the Lord’s instructions.”

“ But if they will confess their sin and the sin of their fathers— their unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, and how they acted with hostility toward Me,and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies— and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled, and if they will pay the penalty for their sin,then I will remember My covenant with Jacob. I will also remember My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

Instead, I preached to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem and in all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance.

Then the Lord said to Cain,“ Where is your brother Abel?”“ I don’t know,” he replied.“ Am I my brother’s guardian?”

Saul said,“ I have sinned. Please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel. Come back with me so I can bow in worship to the Lord your God.”
