“ Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; See now and know; And seek in her open places If you can find a man, If there is anyone who executes judgment, Who seeks the truth, And I will pardon her.

On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,O seed of Israel His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth.Remember His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac,And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel for an everlasting covenant,Saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance,”When you were few in number, Indeed very few, and strangers in it.When they went from one nation to another, And from one kingdom to another people,He permitted no man to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,Saying,“ Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.”Sing to the Lord, all the earth; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods.For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and gladness are in His place.Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength.Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. “ Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,“ Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said,“ Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.”And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said,“ Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”So she said,“ As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”And Elijah said to her,“ Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.For thus says the Lord God of Israel:‘ The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’”So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him.So she said to Elijah,“ What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”And he said to her,“ Give me your son.” So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed.Then he cried out to the Lord and said,“ O Lord my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?”And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said,“ O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.”Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived.And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said,“ See, your son lives!”Then the woman said to Elijah,“ Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”

And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the good that the Lord had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.

When the ear heard, then it blessed me, And when the eye saw, then it approved me;Because I delivered the poor who cried out, The fatherless and the one who had no helper.The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, And I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban.I was eyes to the blind, And I was feet to the lame.I was a father to the poor, And I searched out the case that I did not know.I broke the fangs of the wicked, And plucked the victim from his teeth.“ Then I said,‘ I shall die in my nest, And multiply my days as the sand.My root is spread out to the waters, And the dew lies all night on my branch.My glory is fresh within me, And my bow is renewed in my hand.’

So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom with joy.And so it was, when God helped the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that they offered seven bulls and seven rams.David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the music master with the singers. David also wore a linen ephod.Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets and with cymbals, making music with stringed instruments and harps.

Moreover, my father, see! Yes, see the corner of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the corner of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor rebellion in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my life to take it.

Then David said to all the assembly,“ Now bless the Lord your God.” So all the assembly blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before the Lord and the king.And they made sacrifices to the Lord and offered burnt offerings to the Lord on the next day: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.So they ate and drank before the Lord with great gladness on that day. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him before the Lord to be the leader, and Zadok to be priest.

So Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, with a great crown of gold and a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor.And in every province and city, wherever the king’s command and decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a holiday. Then many of the people of the land became Jews, because fear of the Jews fell upon them.

They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.

There is an evil I have seen under the sun, As an error proceeding from the ruler:Folly is set in great dignity, While the rich sit in a lowly place.

And Hezekiah gave encouragement to all the Levites who taught the good knowledge of the Lord; and they ate throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings and making confession to the Lord God of their fathers.Then the whole assembly agreed to keep the feast another seven days, and they kept it another seven days with gladness.For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep, and the leaders gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep; and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.The whole assembly of Judah rejoiced, also the priests and Levites, all the assembly that came from Israel, the sojourners who came from the land of Israel, and those who dwelt in Judah.So there was great joy in Jerusalem, for since the time of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, there had been nothing like this in Jerusalem.Then the priests, the Levites, arose and blessed the people, and their voice was heard; and their prayer came up to His holy dwelling place, to heaven.

And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them.

Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,saying:“‘ Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, And your princes feast in the morning!
