Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding them like grain with a pestle, you will not remove their folly from them.

晚上，法老及其臣僕和所有埃及人都驚醒了，到處都是哭號聲，因為沒有一家不死人的。

亞哈斯在患難時越發悖逆耶和華，竟去祭拜打敗他的大馬士革人的神明，說：「既然亞蘭王的神明幫助了亞蘭人，我要向這些神明獻祭，以便它們幫助我。」但那些神明導致了他和全體以色列人的滅亡。

許多人知道自己的妻子曾向別的神明燒香。他們和他們的妻子以及住在埃及巴特羅地區的人對耶利米說：「我們不會聽從你奉耶和華的名對我們說的話。

有人向埃及王報信，說以色列百姓逃走了。法老和他的臣僕便改變主意，說：「我們怎麼可以讓以色列人就這樣離開我們，不再服侍我們呢？」

敵人說，『追啊，追上他們，瓜分他們的財物，盡情地擄掠他們，拔出刀來把他們斬盡殺絕。』

第五位天使將碗倒在那海中怪獸的座位上，牠的國便被黑暗籠罩，牠的國民痛苦難當，咬自己的舌頭。他們因為痛苦和毒瘡就褻瀆天上的上帝，不肯為自己的所作所為悔改。
