It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the plunder with the proud.

Yahweh, my heart isn’t arrogant, nor my eyes lofty; nor do I concern myself with great matters, or things too wonderful for me.

I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more. The children of wickedness will not afflict them any more, as at the first,and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Yahweh tells you that Yahweh will make you a house.When your days are fulfilled, and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up your offspring after you, who will proceed out of your body, and I will establish his kingdom.He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;but my loving kindness will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you.Your house and your kingdom will be made sure forever before you. Your throne will be established forever.”’”Nathan spoke to David all these words, and according to all this vision.

David said to Saul,“ Who am I, and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son- in- law to the king?”But at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as wife.Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David; and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David,“ You shall today be my son- in- law a second time.”Saul commanded his servants,“ Talk with David secretly, and say,‘ Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore be the king’s son- in- law.’”Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said,“ Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king’s son- in- law, since I am a poor man, and little known?”

Amaziah also said to Amos,“ You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”Then Amos answered Amaziah,“ I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me,‘ Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’

Samuel said,“ Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;

Then I said,“ Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, I don’t know how to speak; for I am a child.”But Yahweh said to me,“ Don’t say,‘ I am a child;’ for you must go to whomever I send you, and you must say whatever I command you.Don’t be afraid because of them, for I am with you to rescue you,” says Yahweh.Then Yahweh stretched out his hand, and touched my mouth. Then Yahweh said to me,“ Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.Behold, I have today set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and to tear down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”
