Violent men will not oppress them again, as they did in the beginningand during the time when I appointed judges to lead my people Israel. Instead, I will give you relief from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that he himself will build a dynastic house for you.When the time comes for you to die, I will raise up your descendant, one of your own sons, to succeed you, and I will establish his kingdom.He will build a house for my name, and I will make his dynasty permanent.I will become his father and he will become my son. When he sins, I will correct him with the rod of men and with wounds inflicted by human beings.But my loyal love will not be removed from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.Your house and your kingdom will stand before me permanently; your dynasty will be permanent.’”Nathan told David all these words that were revealed to him.

David said to Saul,“ Who am I? Who are my relatives or the clan of my father in Israel that I should become the king’s son-in-law?”When the time came for Merab, Saul’s daughter, to be given to David, she instead was given in marriage to Adriel, who was from Meholah.Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. When they told Saul about this, it pleased him.Saul said,“ I will give her to him so that she may become a snare to him and the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David,“ Today is the second time for you to become my son-in-law.”Then Saul instructed his servants,“ Tell David secretly,‘ The king is pleased with you, and all his servants like you. So now become the king’s son-in-law.”So Saul’s servants spoke these words privately to David. David replied,“ Is becoming the king’s son-in-law something insignificant to you? I’m just a poor and lightly-esteemed man!”

Amaziah then said to Amos,“ Leave, you visionary! Run away to the land of Judah! Earn your living and prophesy there!Don’t prophesy at Bethel any longer, for a royal temple and palace are here!”Amos replied to Amaziah,“ I was not a prophet by profession. No, I was a herdsman who also took care of sycamore fig trees.Then the LORD took me from tending flocks and gave me this commission,‘ Go! Prophesy to my people Israel!’

Samuel said,“ Is it not true that when you were insignificant in your own eyes, you became head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD chose you as king over Israel.

I answered,“ Oh, Lord GOD, I really do not know how to speak well enough for that, for I am too young.”The LORD said to me,“ Do not say,‘ I am too young.’ But go to whomever I send you and say whatever I tell you.Do not be afraid of those to whom I send you, for I will be with you to protect you,” says the LORD.Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me,“ I will most assuredly give you the words you are to speak for me.Know for certain that I hereby give you the authority to announce to nations and kingdoms that they will be uprooted and torn down, destroyed and demolished, rebuilt and firmly planted.”
