Like clouds and wind without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given.

A person who brags about gifts never given is like wind and clouds that don’t produce rain.

Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.

A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.

The one who boasts about a gift that does not exist is like clouds and wind without rain.

Like clouds and wind without rain Is a person who boasts of his gifts falsely.

Whoever falsely boasts of giving Is like clouds and wind without rain.

As clouds and wind without rain, So is he that boasteth himself of his gifts falsely.

These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage. (niv)

The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying. (niv)

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.I repeat: Let no one take me for a fool. But if you do, then tolerate me just as you would a fool, so that I may do a little boasting.In this self-confident boasting I am not talking as the Lord would, but as a fool.Since many are boasting in the way the world does, I too will boast. These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm— shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted— twice dead.They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness.But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey— an animal without speech— who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity— for“ people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” (niv)
