So then we must not sleep as the rest, but must stay alert and sober.For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunk at night.But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation.

Permit no sleep to your eyes or slumber to your eyelids.Deliver yourself like a gazelle from a snare, and like a bird from the trap of the fowler.Go to the ant, you sluggard; observe its ways and be wise!It has no commander, overseer, or ruler,yet it prepares its food in the summer; it gathers at the harvest what it will eat.How long, you sluggard, will you lie there? And do this because we know the time, that it is already the hour for us to awake from sleep, for our salvation is now nearer than when we became believers.

For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says:“ Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”
