I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;

I went past the field of someone who didn’t want to work. I went past the vineyard of someone who didn’t have any sense.

I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense,

I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense.

I went by the field of a slacker and by the vineyard of one lacking sense.

I passed by the field of a lazy one, And by the vineyard of a person lacking sense,

I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;

I went by the field of the sluggard, And by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

I went by the field of a slacker and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense.

I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of one who lacks wisdom.

Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

I will shew thee, hear me; and that[ which] I have seen I will declare;

Lo this, we have searched it, so it[ is]; hear it, and know thou[ it] for thy good.

All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun:[ there is] a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this[ is] also vanity.Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

[ But] whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he[ that] doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

I have been young, and[ now] am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,Provideth her meat in the summer,[ and] gathereth her food in the harvest.How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?[ Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;Frowardness[ is] in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.These six[ things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven[ are] an abomination unto him:A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,A false witness[ that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of[ such as were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors[ there was] power; but they had no comforter.Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive.Yea, better[ is he] than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This[ is] also vanity and vexation of spirit.The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.Better[ is] an handful[ with] quietness, than both the hands full[ with] travail and vexation of spirit.Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.There is one[ alone], and[ there is] not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet[ is there] no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither[ saith he], For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This[ is] also vanity, yea, it[ is] a sore travail.

He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain[ persons is] void of understanding.

All[ things] have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just[ man] that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked[ man] that prolongeth[ his life] in his wickedness.

In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod[ is] for the back of him that is void of understanding.

The righteous shall see[ it], and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
