No, this is the kind of fast I want. I want you to remove the sinful chains, to tear away the ropes of the burdensome yoke, to set free the oppressed, and to break every burdensome yoke.I want you to share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!

Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked!

We have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians.But whoever has the world’s possessions and sees his fellow Christian in need and shuts off his compassion against him, how can the love of God reside in such a person?

I broke the fangs of the wicked, and made him drop his prey from his teeth.

But they were insistent, demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.He released the man they asked for, who had been thrown in prison for insurrection and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.

Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.So too a Levite, when he came up to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

So they all seized Sosthenes, the president of the synagogue, and began to beat him in front of the judgment seat. Yet none of these things were of any concern to Gallio.

While they were trying to kill him, a report was sent up to the commanding officer of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.He immediately took soldiers and centurions and ran down to the crowd. When they saw the commanding officer and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

Abishai said to David,“ Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me drive the spear right through him into the ground with one swift jab! A second jab won’t be necessary!”But David said to Abishai,“ Don’t kill him! Who can extend his hand against the LORD’s chosen one and remain guiltless?”

Then he summoned two of the centurions and said,“ Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea along with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen by nine o’clock tonight,and provide mounts for Paul to ride so that he may be brought safely to Felix the governor.”He wrote a letter that went like this:Claudius Lysias to His Excellency Governor Felix, greetings.This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, when I came up with the detachment and rescued him, because I had learned that he was a Roman citizen.Since I wanted to know what charge they were accusing him of, I brought him down to their council.I found he was accused with reference to controversial questions about their law, but no charge against him deserved death or imprisonment.When I was informed there would be a plot against this man, I sent him to you at once, also ordering his accusers to state their charges against him before you.So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, took Paul and brought him to Antipatris during the night.The next day they let the horsemen go on with him, and they returned to the barracks.When the horsemen came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.When the governor had read the letter, he asked what province he was from. When he learned that he was from Cilicia,he said,“ I will give you a hearing when your accusers arrive too.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.

When the argument became so great the commanding officer feared that they would tear Paul to pieces, he ordered the detachment to go down, take him away from them by force, and bring him into the barracks.
