Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company;

Do not envy a violent man, and do not choose to imitate any of his ways;

Wait patiently for the LORD! Wait confidently for him! Do not fret over the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes!

Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed! Do not envy evildoers!

Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions,envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!

Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says,“ The spirit that God caused to live within us has an envious yearning”?But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,“ God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”

For I envied those who are proud, as I observed the prosperity of the wicked.

Do not fret because of evil people or be envious of wicked people,

The two angels came to Sodom in the evening while Lot was sitting in the city’s gateway. When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face toward the ground.He said,“ Here, my lords, please turn aside to your servant’s house. Stay the night and wash your feet. Then you can be on your way early in the morning.”“ No,” they replied,“ we’ll spend the night in the town square.”But he urged them persistently, so they turned aside with him and entered his house. He prepared a feast for them, including bread baked without yeast, and they ate.Before they could lie down to sleep, all the men– both young and old, from every part of the city of Sodom– surrounded the house.They shouted to Lot,“ Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them!”Lot went outside to them, shutting the door behind him.He said,“ No, my brothers! Don’t act so wickedly!Look, I have two daughters who have never had sexual relations with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do to them whatever you please. Only don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”“ Out of our way!” they cried, and“ This man came to live here as a foreigner, and now he dares to judge us! We’ll do more harm to you than to them!” They kept pressing in on Lot until they were close enough to break down the door.So the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house as they shut the door.Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, from the youngest to the oldest, with blindness. The men outside wore themselves out trying to find the door.

Lot looked up and saw the whole region of the Jordan. He noticed that all of it was well-watered( before the LORD obliterated Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, all the way to Zoar.Lot chose for himself the whole region of the Jordan and traveled toward the east. So the relatives separated from each other.Abram settled in the land of Canaan, but Lot settled among the cities of the Jordan plain and pitched his tents next to Sodom.( Now the people of Sodom were extremely wicked rebels against the LORD.)

The one who associates with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

Do not sweep me away with sinners, or execute me along with violent people,

If they say,“ Come with us! We will lie in wait to shed blood; we will ambush an innocent person capriciously.We will swallow them alive like Sheol, those full of vigor like those going down to the Pit.We will seize all kinds of precious wealth; we will fill our houses with plunder.Join with us! We will all share equally in what we steal.”My child, do not go down their way, withhold yourself from their path;
