For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching.For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom,but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The Pharisees( who loved money) heard all this and ridiculed him.

Now when they heard about the resurrection from the dead, some began to scoff, but others said,“ We will hear you again about this.”

They were silent and did not respond, for the king had ordered,“ Don’t respond to him.”

Also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him, and some were asking,“ What does this foolish babbler want to say?” Others said,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods.”( They said this because he was proclaiming the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.)

Then the Judeans responded,“ Now we know you’re possessed by a demon! Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet you say,‘ If anyone obeys my teaching, he will never experience death.’

Many of them were saying,“ He is possessed by a demon and has lost his mind! Why do you listen to him?”

But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and they began to contradict what Paul was saying by reviling him.Both Paul and Barnabas replied courageously,“ It was necessary to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we are turning to the Gentiles.

The man replied,“ This is a remarkable thing, that you don’t know where he comes from, and yet he caused me to see!We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is devout and does his will, God listens to him.Never before has anyone heard of someone causing a man born blind to see.If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”They replied,“ You were born completely in sinfulness, and yet you presume to teach us?” So they threw him out.

So they began to leave, unable to agree among themselves, after Paul made one last statement:“ The Holy Spirit spoke rightly to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiahwhen he said,‘ Go to this people and say,“ You will keep on hearing, but will never understand, and you will keep on looking, but will never perceive.For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.”’“ Therefore be advised that this salvation from God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen!”

Fearing the LORD is the beginning of moral knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and asked him,“ We are not blind too, are we?”

We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, we are dishonored!To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, poorly clothed, brutally treated, and without a roof over our heads.We do hard work, toiling with our own hands. When we are verbally abused, we respond with a blessing, when persecuted, we endure,when people lie about us, we answer in a friendly manner. We are the world’s dirt and scum, even now.
