Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.

When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.

Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.

because all that is in the world( the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions) is not from the Father, but is from the world.

“ Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

Come now, you rich! Weep and cry aloud over the miseries that are coming on you.Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth- eaten.

“ Absolutely futile!” laments the Teacher,“ All of these things are futile!”

and a messenger came to Job, saying,“ The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing beside them,and the Sabeans swooped down and carried them all away, and they killed the servants with the sword! And I– only I alone– escaped to tell you!”While this one was still speaking, another messenger arrived and said,“ The fire of God has fallen from heaven and has burned up the sheep and the servants– it has consumed them! And I– only I alone– escaped to tell you!”While this one was still speaking another messenger arrived and said,“ The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and carried them all away, and they killed the servants with the sword! And I– only I alone– escaped to tell you!”

Here is a misfortune on earth that I have seen: Wealth hoarded by its owner to his own misery.Then that wealth was lost through bad luck; although he fathered a son, he has nothing left to give him.

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You are making me childless! Joseph is gone. Simeon is gone. And now you want to take Benjamin! Everything is against me.”

Surely people go through life as mere ghosts. Surely they accumulate worthless wealth without knowing who will eventually haul it away.”

And I say this, brothers and sisters: The time is short. So then those who have wives should be as those who have none,those with tears like those not weeping, those who rejoice like those not rejoicing, those who buy like those without possessions,those who use the world as though they were not using it to the full. For the present shape of this world is passing away.

Give me a desire for your rules, rather than for wealth gained unjustly.Turn my eyes away from what is worthless! Revive me with your word!

But you are always thinking and looking for ways to increase your wealth by dishonest means. Your eyes and your heart are set on killing some innocent person and committing fraud and oppression.

“ Futile! Futile!” laments the Teacher,“ Absolutely futile! Everything is futile!”

Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? Why spend your hard-earned money on something that will not satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is nourishing! Enjoy fine food!
