“ When you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you as your special possession, you must never steal anyone’s land by moving the boundary markers your ancestors set up to mark their property.

Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other.

‘ Cursed is anyone who steals property from a neighbor by moving a boundary marker.’ And all the people will reply,‘ Amen.’

This is what the Lord says: Be fair minded and just. Do what is right! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds! Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent!

You would even send an orphan into slavery or sell a friend.

But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice;

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Evil people steal land by moving the boundary markers. They steal livestock and put them in their own pastures.They take the orphan’s donkey and demand the widow’s ox as security for a loan.

“ At that time I will put you on trial. I am eager to witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

They kill widows and foreigners and murder orphans.

“ If I raised my hand against an orphan, knowing the judges would take my side,then let my shoulder be wrenched out of place! Let my arm be torn from its socket!That would be better than facing God’s judgment. For if the majesty of God opposes me, what hope is there?

“ The wicked snatch a widow’s child from her breast, taking the baby as security for a loan.

You must have sent widows away empty handed and crushed the hopes of orphans.
