When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge.

These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did,or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say,“ The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.”And we must not engage in sexual immorality as some of them did, causing 23,000 of them to die in one day.Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites.And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death.These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.

Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.

Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.

But God himself will shoot them with his arrows, suddenly striking them down.Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does.

As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified.

Then all Israel will hear about it and be afraid, and no one will act so wickedly again.

Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance

A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.

Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened.The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade.But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them.Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord— crowds of both men and women.

Then all the men of his town must stone him to death. In this way, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid.

Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense.

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished.So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?

For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.

At the same time there was a terrible earthquake that destroyed a tenth of the city. Seven thousand people died in that earthquake, and everyone else was terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

All the people around them fled when they heard their screams.“ The earth will swallow us, too!” they cried.
