When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge.

When you punish someone who makes fun of others, childish people get wise. By paying attention to wise people, the childish get knowledge.

When a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise; when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.

As it is written,“ The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”And let us not be immoral, as some of them were, and twenty- three thousand died in a single day.And let us not put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by snakes.And do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel.These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

The discerning person acquires knowledge, and the wise person seeks knowledge.

Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning.

But God will shoot at them; suddenly they will be wounded by an arrow.Their slander will bring about their demise. All who see them will shudder,and all people will fear. They will proclaim what God has done, and reflect on his deeds.

When Ananias heard these words he collapsed and died, and great fear gripped all who heard about it.

Thus all Israel will hear and be afraid; no longer will they continue to do evil like this among you.

( Let the wise also hear and gain instruction, and let the discerning acquire guidance!)

The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

It was first communicated through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard him,

Someone who rejected the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.How much greater punishment do you think that person deserves who has contempt for the Son of God, and profanes the blood of the covenant that made him holy, and insults the Spirit of grace?

Just then a major earthquake took place and a tenth of the city collapsed; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

All the Israelites who were around them fled at their cry, for they said,“ What if the earth swallows us too?”
