Sinful people long to do evil. They don’t show their neighbors any mercy.

Don’t plan to harm your neighbor. He lives near you and trusts you.

But you hate what is good. And you love what is evil. You are like someone who tears the skin off my people. You pull the meat off their bones.You eat my people’s bodies. You strip off their skin. You break their bones in pieces. You chop them up like meat. You put them in a cooking pot.”

Evil thoughts come from the inside, from a person’s heart. So do sexual sins, stealing and murder.Adultery, greed, hate and cheating come from a person’s heart too. So do desires that are not pure, and wanting what belongs to others. And so do telling lies about others and being proud and being foolish.

Even as they lie in bed they make evil plans. They commit themselves to a sinful way of life. They never say no to what is wrong.

You have even failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields. Their pay is crying out against you. The cries of those who gathered the harvest have reached the ears of the Lord. He rules over all.You have lived an easy life on earth. You have given yourselves everything you wanted. You have made yourselves fat like cattle that will soon be butchered.You have judged and murdered people who aren’t guilty. And they weren’t even opposing you.

Foolish people say foolish things. Their minds are set on doing evil things. They don’t do what is right. They tell lies about the Lord. They don’t give hungry people any food. They don’t let thirsty people have any water.Those who are worthless use sinful methods. They make evil plans against poor people. They destroy them with their lies. They do it even when those people are right.But those who are noble make noble plans. And by doing noble things they succeed.

Now those things happened as examples for us. They are supposed to keep us from wanting evil things. The people of Israel wanted these evil things.

Ask your own servants. They’ll tell you. We’ve come to you now at a happy time of the year. Please be kind to my men. Please give me and my men anything you can find for us.’ ”When David’s men arrived, they gave Nabal the message from David. Then they waited.Nabal answered David’s servants,“ Who is this David? Who is this son of Jesse? Many servants are running away from their masters these days.Why should I give away my bread and water? Why should I give away the meat I’ve prepared for those who clip the wool off my sheep? Why should I give food to men who come from who knows where?”

Those who have not shown mercy will not receive mercy when they are judged. To show mercy is better than to judge.

Here is what people who belong to this world do. They try to satisfy what their sinful desires want to do. They long for what their sinful eyes look at. They take pride in what they have and what they do. All of this comes from the world. None of it comes from the Father.

Whoever refuses to listen to the cries of poor people will also cry out and not be answered.

Why do you fight and argue among yourselves? Isn’t it because of your sinful desires? They fight within you.You want something, but you don’t have it. So you kill. You want what others have, but you can’t get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t have what you want, because you don’t ask God.When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. That’s because you ask for the wrong reason. You want to spend your money on your sinful pleasures.You are not faithful to God. Don’t you know that to be a friend of the world is to hate God? So anyone who chooses to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy.Don’t you know what Scripture says? God wants the spirit in us to belong only to him. God caused this spirit to live in us. Don’t you think Scripture has a reason for saying this?

Those who do what is wrong are safe for just a while. But those who do what is right last forever.

Good things will come to those who are willing to lend freely. Good things will come to those who are fair in everything they do.

They have spread their gifts around to poor people. Their good works continue forever. They will be powerful and honored.

You plan ways to destroy others. Your tongue is like a blade that has a sharp edge. You are always telling lies.You love evil instead of good. You would rather lie than tell the truth.
