Then they lifted their eyes and looked, and there was a company of Ishmaelites, coming from Gilead with their camels, bearing spices, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry them down to Egypt.So Judah said to his brothers,“ What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh.” And his brothers listened.

And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad. For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.So the Lord said to Cain,“ Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying,“ Watch now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon!’ then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant.”

Then the messengers returned to Jacob, saying,“ We came to your brother Esau, and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”So Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two companies.And he said,“ If Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the other company which is left will escape.”Then Jacob said,“ O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who said to me,‘ return to your country and to your family, and I will deal well with you’:I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have shown Your servant; for I crossed over this Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two companies.Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and attack me and the mother with the children.

So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart,“ The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him,“ Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you.Now therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban in Haran.And stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away,until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?”

Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying:“ What share have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now, see to your own house, O David!” So Israel departed to their tents.

Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying,“ May God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life!Now therefore, as the Lord lives, who has confirmed me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has established a house for me, as He promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today!”So King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died.

Then Abijah and his people struck them with a great slaughter; so five hundred thousand choice men of Israel fell slain.
